Early rehabilitation of children with developmental disorders is the key to success! Rehabilitation should start as early as possible because during the first year the nervous system of a child undergoes great changes. It is very plastic and can be corrected much easier. Therefore, it is very important to prevent the reinforcement of incorrect movements in the child's brain. It is essential to teach child the correct physiological movement patterns.

Developmental disorders in children are not rare, hence there is a need to correct these disorders with the help of special exercises. It is critical to start correction of motor development disorders in time.

The techniques for improving motor skills are divided into three groups:
  1. Improvement of gross motor skills
  2. Enhancement of fine motor skills
  3. Development of articulatory motor skills
Cosmosuit early intervention program is designed for children from 6 to 18 months with the following diagnoses:
  • cerebral palsy (CP)
  • congenital diseases and pathologies of the central and peripheral nervous system (spina bifida, hereditary, etc.)
  • perinatal encephalopathy
  • consequences of traumatic brain injury
  • consequences of neuroinfections (meningitis, encephalitis, etc.)
  • neuromuscular diseases
  • developmental delays

Parents of our young patients can choose a rehabilitation program lasting 2, 3 or 4 weeks. According to the recommendations of neurologist, rehabilitation is conducted for 5 or 6 days. The patient spends up to 3 hours a day in the center.

Personal team, headed by a neurologist, creates an individual rehabilitation plan for each patient based on complaints, anamnesis, results of initial and additional examinations. The work with our little patients is always very painstaking that is why our specialists constantly monitor child's condition during therapy, correctly dosing the load of work.

Active participation and positive attitude of parents is essential for successful early intervention. Our specialists are always happy to give consultations, provide recommendations and teach parents basic methods and exercises in order for them to continue rehabilitation at home.

The main goal of early intervention is the formation of key motor skills, such as holding the head, rolling from back to belly and vise versa, crawling, sitting, standing and walking. We arrange our rehabilitation program in accordance with the physiological development of the child and his/her biological age.

In Cosmosuit we use the following methods of motor development correction:
Medical massage
Medical gymnastics
Neuromotor development

Massage is aimed at passive development of muscles and the osteoarticular system. In Cosmosuit massage is performed by a physiotherapist with experience in massage for neurological patients. The therapy allows to normalize muscle tone and blood circulation and increase the range of movements in the joints.

Medical gymnastics includes both passive and active movements. Regular exercises allow to normalize muscle tone, strengthen ligaments and form the missing motor skills.

Gymnastics should be aimed directly at the formation of basic motor skills: holding head, rolling over, crawling, sitting, standing and walking.

The key method of medical gymnastics for children under 18 months is Vojta therapy. It teach baby to hold his/her head, activate shoulder joints, roll over and crawl without assistance.

Simultaneously, kids exercise according to ball-trampoline-stretching method. They perform simple exercises that help to hold head and maintain muscle tone, as well as train the vestibular apparatus and develop visual perception of the environment.

Depending on the age of the baby, there are certain requirements for games aimed at development of his/her motor skills. Neuromotor development therapist uses special exercises in a form of game. Games for children under one year should be as simple as possible, because at this age babies are not able to perform complex combinations of actions and lose interest quickly. The most important thing is to actively involve the child into the process and at the same time correct motor development.
